The environmental requirements of our production permits define the outer framework for our operations. Proactive efforts and continuous improvement actions, as well as focus on work, chemical, and fire safety, are aimed at preventing any potential environmental damage. Our sites and production facilities are operated and managed so that they do not cause safety or environmental risks or undue inconvenience to local residents. Waste, wastewater, and emissions are properly treated in accordance with local legislation, practices, and permits.
We have implemented externally certified management systems to support the eco-efficiency work of our manufacturing facilities, but also to implement standardised compliance and continuous improvement activities across our production. Environmental leaks represent a risk that is monitored with due diligence by Tikkurila, both internally and externally by: authorities, external auditors, internal procedures and management system standard requirements.
Stricter restrictions on the permissible ingredients of paint formulas and their consequent direct and indirect implications further down the value chain contain risks that require robust safety measures, including product safety alert processes and urgent action procedures. As environmental and other safety labels become increasingly frequently referred to among our consumer and retail customer stakeholders, and their environmental and safety become increasingly tighter, we are continuously developing and improving these aspects of our paints, without compromising the established quality of the products.
